Sara and Sam's Visit!

Sara (Curtis' cousin) and her husband Sam came to visit us. We had so much fun!
They brought a TON of donations with them - a HUGE THANK YOU to all the people who donated school supplies and other things - everyone really appreciates it! Sara did a lot of fund-raising before they came - everyone was very happy with the results - so thank you!

These first two pictures are all the donations Sara and Sam brought: pens, pencils, candy, markers, crayons, soccer balls, footballs, hacky sacks and a lot more. Next is Sara and Sam distributing a bag to each of the kids at the school - there are over 200 kids and all got a bag of educational goodies (and a few pieces of candy!)

Sara is also a very good dancer, so she taught the kids some American style dancing - they loved it! For those of us with two left feet we cheered from the benches and took pictures :)

Sara and Sam on the river Safari with an elephant posing behind them - we were so close to them.

And of course, no trip to Zambia would be complete without seeing Victoria Falls! This was also a first for Curtis and I, and it really was amazing! We saw the falls (of course) and went on a Safari (in Botswana) and that was amazing! The safari was a full day thing, started with a 3 hour river safari and then a 3 hour game drive, with a buffet lunch in between. We also went to a drumming circle and learned to play Djembe drums.

Sara and Sam - THANK YOU for an amazing trip - we had a blast with you!

  1. How amazing! I don't have any other words to describe it... I'm so glad they were able to do so many wonderful things with and without the kids while they visited. :)

  2. Hi to you both--waiting for the Minnesota Winters to start again. Got up to 65 degrees today. Much different than the snow and rain we have had. Worked in preparing gardens for next spring. Of course, you will quickly forget the snow and cold here in the tropical temps there!
I am so sure it was nice to see familiar faces again with Curtis' cuz arriving. How long did the get to stay?
Can't wait to see your next entry! Tegan and Tayte are being 'educated' too.

  3. Dear Katie and Curtis, My heart goes out to you in the loss of your Grandma. I was also very close to my Grandma and loved to spend time with her. There is a special bond between a girl and her Grandma. I know how it must hurt not to be with your family but always keep in your heart the memories and that special love. And I'm sure she will now be able to watch over you and always be a part of your days at Upeme. I also want to thank you again for your commitment to Africa Hope and the Children. We met this moring and prayed. It is always good to here about you and the wonderful WORK you are doing. God's Blessing over your broken heart and may he Keep you in His Hands.

  4. Hi Katie and Curtis
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear Grandmother. I know that you are comforted in the knowledge that she is now held in God's loving hands, smiling down at both of you.
Sorry I have been slow in writing to you, my work has been very consuming of my time. We continue to pray for you and the children and are so proud of the work you are doing. I'm pleased you were able to get some time to go to Livingstone and the Falls.
    With gratitude...Rene'

  5. Awesome pictures from Sam and Sara's trip! Wow! I'm so glad you had a great time together. Digital technology is such a gift... to be able to share such incredible pictures and so quickly! I can sense the joy and fun of your time together through the pictures. Thanks for posting!!
